Save The Date

August 17, 2010

Once we had booked the church and reception, we were finally able to answer at least a few of the probing questions posed by family, friends and virtual strangers alike! However, once we’d announced the date, a whole other set of questions began which centered around the fact that we chose to get married a whole two and a half years after our engagement. People could not understand why we were waiting so long but on the other hand, we could not understand what the rush was!

For us, being engaged was something to be cherished, another chapter in our lives which we didn’t want to forget by rushing up the aisle in a matter of months! Also, there was the fact that we were in the middle of a planning application and of course, a budget for the big day to be considered. Another factor was that once we’d announced our engagement, a lot of our friends decided to jump on the bang wagon and take the plunge too with the majority of them getting married within a year or so which left us with few summer dates to choose from!

As the saying goes, each to their own but would love to hear the thoughts of you lovely readers?

You’re just right to enjoy the engagement phase. I think a lot of people get swept up in the planning as soon as they decide to get married that they forget to enjoy their new status!

I totally agree – as I said each to their own but I really like being engaged & don’t see the need to rush, plus I’m just not organised enough to plan a wedding in less than a year ha!

I would love a long engagement…………..and I actually think 2 or two and half years isn’t that long………I would consider a five year engagement very long………….I am so disorganized I would need the two years to plan and I would prob only stop shirking with the delight of being proposed too to after two years………….being engaged is such an exciting time ( well I would imagine it is anyway) and you are right to cherish it…………..sure as you said the both of you are going to share the rest of your lives together so what is the rush? Do it your way Emz because it seems the perfect way to me……..
